Hello Friends –
It’s great to be back home for a few minutes, where summer, my favorite season, is starting to settle into New England. We are eating local strawberries, watching fireflies, and finally warming up our bones. Seems like I’m only here for snatches of time these days. Next Saturday I’ll be in Rockville MD as part of the Folk “N Great Series, sharing the evening with a Cary Cooper, wonderful songwriter from Texas. Contact for directions and reservations are: info@folkngreatmusic.org
Then on Sunday, I’ll be doing another house concert in Alexandria, VA. In case you’ve never been to a house concert, please keep in mind that they are open to the public, and a truly wonderful way to get your live music fix.
I have some really special summer shows coming up in July. The Fourth Annual Sugar Hill Folk Festival is scheduled for Sunday July 13. Other performing artists include Brooks Williams and The Flown Home Band. Also, I’ve been invited to perform at part of the Clark Art Museum’s Tuesday evening series on July 15. Both of these events are free and open to the public. Mark your calendars and bring a picnic!
Later this summer I’m headed out to teach songwriting again. Universe of Song, at St Francis University in Loretto, PA is a four-day songwriting retreat for the experienced and novice songwriters. Hone your skills as a songwriter, network with a community of inspiring artists, and eat like a king! You can register at www.universeofsong.com for details.
I am also getting really excited about my upcoming Artist-in-Residence position for the National Park Service. I’ll be spending most of August on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Webmaster Dave Senft has posted the songs written by Williams College students this year in January. You can go have a listen at: ~http://wso.williams.edu/~dsenft/singers/
Many of you know that my father and his family were Holocaust survivors and that I have songs that address this dark period in history. If you work in a school or have a connection to one that might be interested in my presentation, I’d be happy to forward the promotional material as well as recommendations.
Last fall I was invited to teach at a wonderful little retreat for poets and songwriters on Star Island, just off the coast of Portsmouth, NH. This incredible place is also under threat of development. If you want to take a walk back in time, take the boat out and walk around this tiny island! I was honored to co-write a song about this beloved place to be included in an upcoming CD, available by mid June 2008. The proceeds from the sale of this CD will be given the Star Island Corporation. For more information please go to: http://johnrobbins.us/starcd
I’ve posted some new music on myspace page. Surf over and be my friend: http://www.myspace.com/bernicelewis
